The golf tee thing is definitely what I'm thinking of doing but i'd have to figure out something different for the top tub. I built my bearded dragons' cage to sit on top of three tub rack I made. Will be a simple mod to do though so i'm not worried. Thanks for the tips everyone!

Plastic tubs are typically a little flexible. In my DIY rack I had about a 1/4" gap (maybe a little smaller) and I had an escape. She was about 400-500g at the time and managed to squeeze out. It took me a week to find her, needless to say I put lids on to fill in the gap after I found her. They can squeeze through some small spaces and if the plastic tubs are even remotely flexible they can get through.

Unfortunately the plans I followed called for such little spacing that I couldn't force a tub in with a lid if I tried lol

I'm trying to ask on every thread about escapes what kind of rack it was. So far every escape thread I've read has been from a DIY rack.
I'm not going to draw any direct conclusions about machine cut, grooved, floating lip PVC racks that are sold ready for assembly versus the DIY ones that everyone seems to be losing snakes out of ...
... but there certainly seems to be a correlation in my research so far.

If your research has taught you anything, it should be that if you choose a DIY rack to build that you need to either ensure it has locking mechanisms or that you need to work them in yourself
When I built my rack I didn't realize that my BPs would be able to wedge themselves out a small game and actually move the tub.
