    I think you missed the point of the psst.

    You want to provide a proper day and night cycle. The OP is asking about lighting the cage at night. If you put a white light at night it would cause your snakes to stress. The day/night cycle can really become important if you are a breeder.

    As far as your red light messing with your eyes. Does it have UV properties to it? Or is the light in a position that you are seeing directly into the bulb?

    The red and blue for that matter should not effect your eyes, that's why they are used when you need to preserve your nightvision.
    I noticed the point of the post, thank you. All I'm saying is that it messes with my vision. The bulb I have is a UV free heat lamp bulb. It's pointed down so I don't look at it at all. But I do have extremely sensitive eyes so that might be the problem. All I was saying is that it bothers me. It may not have any affect on the OP at all.
