Ok, sounds like a plan:

I'll make a red/blue led strip using a switching pcb or something like that, I still have enough PCB blank material to do the strip.

Does 3k mcd sound ok for the LEDs?

I think you missed the point of the psst.

You want to provide a proper day and night cycle. The OP is asking about lighting the cage at night. If you put a white light at night it would cause your snakes to stress. The day/night cycle can really become important if you are a breeder.

As far as your red light messing with your eyes. Does it have UV properties to it? Or is the light in a position that you are seeing directly into the bulb?

The red and blue for that matter should not effect your eyes, that's why they are used when you need to preserve your nightvision.

I noticed the point of the post, thank you. All I'm saying is that it messes with my vision. The bulb I have is a UV free heat lamp bulb. It's pointed down so I don't look at it at all. But I do have extremely sensitive eyes so that might be the problem. All I was saying is that it bothers me. It may not have any affect on the OP at all.

No that's not all you were saying.

You suggested white light to see the snake in all it's colored glory. Which is in no way a correct color for a night cycle light.


Munizfire, you lost me. You pasted my knowledge of LED I guess. I'm not sure what that is.

3k mcd = 3000 millicandelas = 3 candelas (a fairly bright, but not super bright LED)

I wish I could demonstrate to you how 'bright' this LED is, because I have no Idea of how bright would be bad for him.


I'll just keep looking thru my LED stash and look for reds/blues that light up enough to see the enclosure, while not being 'annoying'
