We were turned off of border patrol for a couple reasons, but like you, my husband loved the observation duties (when not in combat of course) . he actually almost got into an air unit of the guard but didn't because he was going to go to Afghanistan and they trimmed the unit and cut those with important jobs and families, than ended up getting out..the good thing about birder patrol is they will take your time served to put toward benefits and retirement.my husbands degree is actually history. He was artillery for 13 years, often in a gunner position. When deployed he was retrained as
Military Police and than the Cav.
