These are the same people that will be complaining that the huge increase in wild rats and mice in their area is getting out of control throughout the winter! Why are we seeing so many more rats and mice this year than last! Hrm....

Rattlesnake roundups are a particularly sore spot with me. There's a group called RARR (Rise against rattlesnake roundups) that seems to be raising a lot of awareness about this.
Rattlesnakes are frequently killed in my area just for living near houses. Seriously, they aren't difficult to relocate, but people just don't seem to care.

    Re: Can you believe this?

Rattle snake round ups are disgusting! End of story. To sew their mouth shut, the snakes are tranquilized and then sewn shut. When they wake up, they are being used as toys for kids. Also, some of the methods used to get the rattlesnakes is hideous like pouring gas down in a nest and lighting it on fire forcing them to come out where they want them to. Check out Urban Jungles Radio and/or Danny Mendes for more info. There is also an article in a recent Reptile Magazine showing some of the disturbing behavior. I grew up in the sticks and still live in the country to this day, I also like to hunt and fish, so I am no tree hugger, but to kill simply for amusement sounds like a bunch of serial killers in the making. Sorry to get on my soap box, but this practice needs to stop!

This is actually the first I have heard rattlesnake roundups. It makes me sick to my stomach to think that people actually treat them in such a horrible way. Just because something can be dangerous doesn't mean it needs destroyed, captured, tortured or killed.. It is just as easy to in fact probably easier to just avoid the animals and/or take safety precautions around them. What really bothers me though is that one day if they ever become endangered or even when the amount of mice and rats add up as someone stated before people will complain and take notice then. If these people where doing this to any cute, fuzzy, or well know/loved animal there would be an uproar about it. The only reason there isn't is because so many people fear snakes and don't understand them. This of course just brings me to the one thing hate about people is that the majority of us want to destroy or change things we fear or don't understand. I can just keep going on about this though so I guess I will just stop here before I decided to write a book on why this bothers me...
