    Garter Love

Earlier in the summer my boyfriend was taking his daughter fishing every Sunday while I was at work (superdad!) but the fish pickings were pretty slim. They did come home with this beauty one day though! I'm not familiar with garter sub species, but this guy was just PRETTY! I love all the blue on him (or her). Whenever the little thing coiled you could see an "underlayer" of red too, so freaking cool. After a quick photoshoot and overnight stay at our house he was taken back to the lake. I don't keep any, but garters remain one of my favorite snakes, used to catch these guys daily when I was a kid.

    Enjoy!

Thamnophis is one of the more under appreciated genus out there. Nice find, thanks for sharing!
