New to ball pythons, but not animals

Well Me and my Wife have "inherited" a ball python... Well Long end of it short A Friend of the Wife had a Boyfriend who bred snakes for a few of the local pet stores. He gave his girlfriend a ball python as a present. Well They broke up and come to find out the girlfriend is afraid of snakes. Scared to the point that she hired someone to come into her home and feed the snake, and do everything else, she kept the poor snake's cage covered in a blanket the whole time. She didn't want to upset her boyfriend (ex-boyfriend now). Well after the break up she was going to let the poor thing go into the wild, so me and the wife stepped in and now we have a ball python. She's only about 6 months old right now, but it's been an awesome experience so far. Also some of the beautiful morphs that are in the ball python family are intriguing.

Anyways we've taken care of everything from rodents, to loons and bears. We currently have 2 cats, 2 dogs and free range chickens (the coop blew down in a storm and they seem to do just fine running around on their own) me and the wife have plenty of experience with all sorts of animals, but so far ball pythons seem to be the most intriguing, the different morphs, and who knew snakes could have personalities as such. I handle her here and there to keep her used to it, and no worries, I threw out the heat rock and use a heat pad under the tank. (thanks to some warnings from these forums) Sometimes when i pull her out, she likes to crawl on top of my head while i read the paper(i have a shaved head). Also when I'm on the computer she likes to curl around my forearm.

Anyways i look forward to learning more, and watching my current ball grow. With everyone's help here i should be able to keep a happy and healthy Python.

Wow, what a story!
I am also new here, I have no experience what so ever with forums, but learning a bit as I go.
First of all, congrats on your new BP. It's a shame people think about letting these animals into the wild that is one of the main reasons why our hobby end up in the media, because of irresponsible owners. Like the Burmese situation in FL.
They do have different personalities and are truly individuals. I don't see myself living without one now.
Very rewarding experience too.
