My guess is that you'd be more likely to find a bargain where there are higher concentrations of shows/expos. California and Florida are big ones, more local breeders = more competition. However, bargain does not mean quality. The jaw dropping combos, stunning single gene animals, and newer (less common) morphs won't be much different price wise and you generally have a better selection online.
All of my "breeding quality" BPs were acquired online. Not that the local shows don't have good animals, but I was able to find exactly what I wanted as far as what I liked in those morphs, and over half the vendors sold online as well anyway. My budget and ability to search the internet were my only limiting factors (fun to explain to the boyfriend why I had 70 some availability sections and classified pages book marked). I don't see myself going to a show and finding what I want for much less than what I expect a breeder or company respectively to charge
