Feeding hognose hatchlings video
Hey folks,
Here is a vid of some of my hoggie hatchlings going to town on frozen thawed pinkies. Some are quick on the tongs, others need some convincing, and the last one on the vid think's it can fly...
Anyways, for those who haven't seen how voracious hoggies can be, this vid should be fun stuff
Sorry for the shakey cam; I only have 2 hands!

Re: Feeding hognose hatchlings video
Cool video. Just picked up a yearling western hoggie a couple of days ago. I haven't tried to feed him yet because the guy I bought him from fed him the day before I got him. Just a couple of questions. My hoggie is currently feeding on small f/t mice per what the original owner told me. Like my bpz, should I switch the hoggie over to rats asap? The hoggie has aspen bedding in his enclosure like your video. Is it safe to feed them with some of the bedding getting stuck on the food? thanks

Re: Feeding hognose hatchlings video
I keep my hoggies on mice for the most part. I have a few 400-500+ gram females that are on small rats to avoid multiple item feedings.
As for the aspen, I have never had an issue with feeding them on their substrate. It does get stuck to the food, but it seems to come off and stick around the hognose's mouths instead of being ingested.

Wilbur ate for the first time last night. I thawed out a frozen small mouse and heated it up real good. Placed it on a dish and placed it in enclosure. Turned off the lights and left him alone. After a couple of minutes grabbed the flashlight to check up on him. There he was swallowing it down. Such a great feeling when they take their first meal.

That is always good news! Glad to hear he is being a good little hoggie for you!
