Bloating from midsection to anus (like a sausage)

My adult female pinstripe is very bloated like a sausage. It does not look normal, and she is filled with gas. She was recently off food, but just started eating again. She has taken about 4 rats since she went on food at the end of last month. Do you think she needs to see a vet? Has anyone had this happen, I don't want her to explode.

Pictures would help, if you have any or could take a few of her. Is she passing her poop normally? Could be she's blocked up and needs to take a nice healthy dump, especially if she's passing gas. It also could be a blockage of some sort or something entirely different. Again, pics would help but if you think it's dire or an emergency, take her to the vet and forgo asking opinions on what everyone thinks it could be and go straight to a professional with her to hopefully find out what it is. At best I/anyone else could only offer educated guesses or opinions. Good luck with her and hope it turns out okay.

Is she gravid? Did you buy her as being gravid or did you pair her at all with a male? How old is she and what's her current or most recent weight? More information the better but again, in the end it's only going to be educated guesses or blind shots in the dark; if you think it's serious, I'd bite the bullet and take her to the vet.

Re: Bloating from midsection to anus (like a sausage)

I am unsure how to upload images. I have a link to the image on my dropbox

As you can see I am soaking her for now, and will try and get her to the vet tomorrow. Yea I don't care about vet expense. It's only 60 bucks last time i went.

She is not gravid, and she's was 1200 when I got her, now she is about 1500. She has not passed since I got her which was about 3 weeks ago.

When was the last time she pooped?

Edit: So if she hasn't pooped, that's probably what it is. Giving her a bath in warm (no warmer than 90 degrees) water can help. It's called "sausage butt" for a reason.

She gained 300 grams in 3 weeks?! I'd say it's that she needs to poop. Lukewarm water soaking can sometimes stimulate that. If that doesn't do the trick, the vet might be able to manually stimulate her enough to get her to pass. If that's what it is, I'd let the vet do it...then it's their mess to clean, lol! I mean, wow! A 300 gram turd would have to be a photo-worthy moment, lmao! As to uploading photos, here's the link for a tutorial on that, if you're bored and want to read up:

Well maybe I will get lucky tonight. I have her soaking now, just about to put her back in her tub. I will update what happens, since I can't really find much info on this problem.

Good luck with things and hope she passes for you...save you a trip to the vet in spite of it more than likely being one helluva mess!

Ok good news. As soon as I put her back she passed. A huge calcium stone, and also pooped. Cleaning up the mess now

The "stone" is called a urate. It's just hardened urine.. The "anus" is the vent..

She will be fine. Next time she decides to go off feed for awhile don't give her large frequent meals once she starts again. Give her meals that are no more than the same size around as her widest part and preferably a bit smaller than that. Plus wait a week between feedings.

It can take their digestive systems to get back into the swing of things after they've not eaten in awhile so you want to start them off easy.
