    RTB Caging Question

I'm going to be moving soon and am planning out my new reptile room and have a question regarding cage size for RTB's. I know that a full grown RTB should have a 6' x 2' x 2' cage but could I use a 4' x 3' x 2' instead? Both have 12 square feet of floor space and a volume of 24 cubic feet. The 4' x 3' footprint would work much better for me, but will it be ok for the RTB?

    Thanks
    ~Aaron

I think it would be fine, is it male or female? Either way I'm pretty sure it would work well other than trying to reach back into a 3' deep cage for cleaning.

I don't have or am currently looking at any, but I plan on getting a few to start breeding in a few years (I want to work with Albinos T + & -/Hypo/Anery/Super Jungle/Sunglow/Moonglow/Snow) So I will have males and females. The plan is to get some T70's from AP (8' x 3' x 2') and use a divider. This is how I plan on housing my carpet(s) blood(s), dumeril's boa(s), and RTB'(s)

Cleaning will certainly be more of a hassle with a 3' deep cage, but I have a few ideas on how to make it easier.

4x2x2 should be fine for most males and dwarf females, 6x2x2 for females and extra large males. 4x3x2 is probably better due to the little more space but not necessary IMO.

    Re: RTB Caging Question

Well, this will be a first giving you a little advice Aaron LOL!
I've been researching caging for Colombian RTBs for a while. Have you looked into Boaphile products? Jeff Ronne is located not far from me and from what I gather is one of the top builders of boa caging, and is also a breeder. I believe he is credited with the salmon line of boas.

The Boaphile 421D or more expensive 422D are nice 4FT cages. He also makes 6 and 8 footers and I believe they are expandable if needed later on. There is another place here in MN called Monster Cages, but I've heard mixed reviews on them.

Boaphile cages come custom and the shipping is free. He will install a radiant heat panel, and the UTH (flexwatt) and a light if you want. Like you, I'd use a Herpstat, but he does sell Ranco as well.

Let me know what you end up with, as I know I'll be jealous LOL.
