Leave him on the cyprus. Cyprus is one of the best substrates you can use IMO.

If your worried about the F/T get yourself a blow drier. I blow dry all my f/t rats before I put them in to be eaten. And I have my guys on Aspen (Which is Only because I breed rats too, and It's easier to have one substrate, considering I go through about 20 cubic feet a month lol).
