Slight whistle
So, I have noticed my Male pastel has a slight whistle when breathing sometimes. I have them on the reptibark red bark, finally got my humidity down from the high 80's to the low 70's of about 71% usually. Temperatures are 90-92 warm side and 80-83 cool side in all my tubs on the rack. No other snakes have this issue. He does not have any mucus or anything wet/dry liquids coming out of his nose. Any thoughts???

Is it really a whistle like sound or more of a heavy breathing? I have noticed my snakes will make a heavy breathing sound from time to time but I have never heard a whistle like noise.

Re: Slight whistle
Is the snake about to go into shed? Sometimes they make a whistling noise coming from their nostrils when they are in shed.

Maybe his belly is a little pink, but he's done it since I got him, and tbh, it may not be a whistle, more of a wheezy sound? But it's not the whole time I have him out just every once in a while, like I heard it for about 15 seconds then it was gone....I dunno what it could be.

BPnet Veteran
My snake has something similar but my vet says it's most likely some sort of ri. She has this cut tht screwed up her shed on her head which is wat I told the vet. She doesn't believe that caused it

If you make them struggle a bit while handling them they will wheeze a little, totally normal.
They can also whistle a bit especially during the start of a shed since that nostrils is where the shed process starts.

I have a normal male that has made a whistle sound when I have him out from day one. I've had him over two years, since he was a hatchling. He's not a prime specimen by any means (finnicky mouser), but he's healthy. He's been to the vet several times and has no signs of RI or other illness. The vet calls them his little "vocalizations". Lol. He only does it when I have him out or when he's stressed. Could be something like that if you don't see any signs of RI or shed.

I see slight signs of she'd such as dulling of colors and pink belly, so I guess that could be it. If it gets worse to the vet I will go!!!!
