    For the pied x pastel clutch, all of the offspring would be 100% het pied. This is because the pied in the pairing is passing along one copy of the pied gene to each offspring.

    If both parents were pieds, all of the offspring would be pieds. This is because each parent would be passing along a copy of the pied gene. An animal has to have two copies of the pied gene in order for it to be visible. This is true with all recessive traits.

    When you breed a pair of 100% het pieds together, the normal looking offspring have a 66% chance of inheriting a single copy of the pied gene. So the normal looking offspring are referred to as 66% het pied.
