    Re: Does anyone else....

I get one hell of a great feeling when my little babies eat. I've had them 5 weeks and they haven't missed a meal yet. Yesterday was probably like Christmas for my girl DarkSide. Or maybe it just seemed that to me. She had a good one-piece shed, a big poop, and fat little mouse of a meal, all in one day. Does it get any better for a snake than that?

    Re: Does anyone else....

I guess it just depends on the snake to determine whether or not I get excited. ALL my corns except one eat anything that jumps into their feed bins. I do have one baby corn that only eats live, but she's usually pretty consistent. I just have to make the 30 mile round trip to get it for her. I'll be SUPER excited when she finally decides that F/T is just as tasty as live.

But that brings us to the ball pythons...my normal girl eats ANYTHING I toss into her tub: F/T, live, mice, rats, etc. and I can always alternate and she'll always eat (for example...if I bought a live mouse for the spider ball python and she doesn't eat it...I give it to the normal and she'll gobble it down. The next week she'll eat a F/T rat like she normally gets). Naturally, when she eats, it's not all that exciting because she eats consistently! She was a rescue...so for her first month of feedings I was always excited because I wanted to know that she would recover from being malnourished (6 month old weighing 44g when I got her )

Then I have a new lesser boy (I've had him for a total of 6 days). I was really excited when it gobbled up a live rat fuzzy the other day. I'll be even more excited when he decides to switch to F/T.

But then there's my spider girl. She won't eat rats. She only eats mice. Even still, she usually skips a feeding. She's a little afraid of live mice (I tried one when I couldn't get her eating F/T and when she would strike, the mouse would jump and it scared her to the point where she would ignore it). Usually I can get her to consistently eat F/T mice as long as they are SUPER hot. I usually must blow dry it. I can never truly predict when she's going to eat. I wish she would decide to eat every feeding...then she might actually be ready to breed next season.

I completely agree! My friends think I am a bit crazy because I tell the snakes good job when they eat. I guess it is a little out there.

Perhaps for me, the only thing I get sad about is waiting for the next feed day since I enjoy watching them eat.
I feel even more proud when my bps had their first adult mice and took them in like champs!

I agree. I love feeding days for my snakes and geckos and I get a sense of pride, happiness and relief when they eat. I do get a feeling of dread when they skip a meal but the longer I have them in my care, the less it bothers me because I know that if I do my job correctly in caring for them, they will eat. And I too agree that it is very exciting to witness them eating. Seeing then strike and coil is awesome. I fed our new baby JCP last night for the first time. That was will just seeing her fly out and grab the mouse out of midair

    It's more like blessed relief.....

Little "Murderface", who's only been eating live mice started refusing last week and I was worried she was sick or something.

For no explicable reason, tonight I laid a very warm F/T in front of her hide and looked back in a few minutes later to see her eating it.

I woke hubby up at 4:30 AM just to announce this miraculous event.

[he was happy...she's been a real emotional pain for me]

When it's all over and I've only got one refusal out of 20 snakes, I'm totally jacked on endorphins.

Every Friday night begins fraught with anxiety...who will eat?
    Who will not eat again?!?

So yeah, seeing them eat is a happy dance kinda thing.

The best is once they eat after being on strike for 4 months! My male pastel goes on strike about twice a year for me and won't eat for either three or for months or he will only eat 3 times over a 6 month period. He's such a little turd!

Side note - your boyfriend in your avatar picture looks incredbily evil. Let him know that I said that it is okay to smile, especially when with a beautiful lady such as yourself!

My fire finally ate last night!!!! Granted it was a large live mouse.... I couldn't be happier. I dropped the mouse in there and watched for a few, then left him be for an hr and it was gone. Now I have to throw some rat crawlers in there and see if he goes for it. Then it's small rats from then on out.
