I don't cool either and prefer not to. As stated the chance for a RI is increased and i have found over the years that great a great success rate can be had without cooling.
As for pairing, you can start now, Nov, Dec.. etc. Its really up to you and your snakes. Last year i had a female get her first lock dec 31 and ovyed in may.. only two locks that i saw. Remember it only takes one so dont stress if you're not seeing the 8+ locks other threads are talking about.
Pair until ovy and if you're not sure if you saw an ovy then keep pairing, the snakes know more then we do
