    Healthy POOPS

I've had my 2 baby BPs for almost 2 weeks now. One of them pooped over a week ago. They have each had 2 meals since then and no poops. I wonder what is a "regular" schedule for 2 month old snakes? And do most enthusiasts give their snakes regular warm baths? Or only when there is noticeable constipation or sticking shed?

    Re: Healthy POOPS

I have no idea how often my two month olds poop, but it definitely isn't weekly. At this age, they are using every nutrient they can to grow. Use baths ONLY as a treatment (stuck shed, etc.). Bathing your snake for no apparent reason can be more harmful than helpful, and will only add stress, especially for such young hatchlings. Too many people seem to get paranoid and think they need to "help" their BPs perform simple bodily functions like defecation.

    Re: Healthy POOPS

These are my first babies. I hadn't considered them using a higher percent of the nutrition than juvies/adults. That puts my mind at ease. I also haven't noticed any thickness/density near the vent area so I guess they're fine. Thx

"Sausage butt" is the term used to describe a BP that is close to pooping. You'll understand why when you see it. Some of mine poop/pee only once ever month or so when they shed. My little snakes in the 100g range poop no more than once a month. I weighed the prey and the snakes for a while and decided to do a little math. They 'absorbed' roughly 70% of the weight of their food. These guys really know how to survive on infrequent feeding opportunities. Others seem to pee every other day and poop every time they eat (scoundrels!).

There is NO schedule unless there is a obvious sign of blockage there is nothing to worry about.

Younger animals will use most of the prey item for their growth and depending on the animal himself, prey size and feeding frequency the length of time between defecation may vary.

And do most enthusiasts give their snakes regular warm baths?
NO bathing your snake is not necessary and will can lead to stress which in turn can lead to other issues.

    Re: Healthy POOPS

If I think one of my ball pythons is pooping like he should I always check them from their mid belly to just above the vent. If there is any type of impaction, they will have a hardened knot like feel to them. It is unmistakeable.

    Re: Healthy POOPS

My younger snakes poop on average about once a month, if that, maybe a little more frequently during warmer months. Actually, regardless of age, that's about how much mine poop - it seems to be more related to the routine of individual snakes than a general age/size/category type thing. They know when they need to poo, and as Deborah said, there is no set schedule for when they're "supposed" to go. Ditto on the baths - if you've got them set up correctly, they won't need them, and the stress of soaking (again, reiterating what Deborah said) can sometimes do more harm than good.

If you've got em set up correctly, you won't need to soak with them or worry about how often they poop.
