Hydrofarm thermostat with 6 outlet cord

Is the 6 outlet cord suppose to turn off and on with the heat tape? I dont have 6 outlet cord with my hydrofarm, but before I did but I noticed that the outlet cord would also turn off and on with the heat tape.

Your talking about a power strip right?

The way the hydrofarm works is by applying power and turning it back off... it is equivalent to plugging/unplugging whatever is plugged into it. So if you have a power strip plugged into the hydrofarm it will turn on and off.

yes it will turn off when the heat tape is at the set temp and turn back on when the heat tape cools a couple degrees. only on/off thermostat do that i think 1 of the johnson or ranco do the same.

The Johnsons/ranco will do this. Proportional thermostats will not. Instead they reduce the amount of power going to the heating elements.

    Why is this an issue?

Nope, it's perfectly normal, nothing to worry about.

The big difference between johnson/ ranco and a hydrofarm is when it turns on and off johnson and ranco will switch one degree away from the set point. Hydrofarm 3 below and one over the set point. Other than this they are basically the same (build and max power not withstanding)

Yeah I know about the temperature for the hydrofarm, but I haven't had any problems so far and its been a year with the thermostat and I had no snakes with any injuries or any sicknesses. I will get a Johnson or Herpstat thermostat eventually.
