    rodent ventilation cfm help?

I bought a 50 cfm bathroom fan and the install kit. I have to drill a hole in my house for the vent! But my question is the room I am trying to vent is like 25x12 ft. Is 50 cfm overkill? And is it going to cost a lot to run 24/7? Can I wire it to a dimmer switch? Please help I am going to install tomorrow and a friend will be doing the electrical work!

I don't think that there is such a thing as overkill when it comes to rodent smell lol. You should be able to wire a dimmer switch to it. The cost shouldn't be a huge amount, nothing to worry about at least.

    Re: rodent ventilation cfm help?

    It's most likely not big enough...Years ago I had 2 in a 18 x 20 shed...They didn't do much and burned up in about 8 months.

I'd say a 50cfm fan is way too small. That is about the airflow of a 80mm computer case fan. I put a 120mm, 78cfm fan in my incubator on a rheostat.

If you are exhausting a room in your house I would look at something with much more airflow.

Just guessing that the ceilings are 8ft... 25' x 12' x 8'= 2400cu/ft. Divide that by your 50cfm fan.... that will turn the air over once every 48 minutes if everything is perfect. Not enough to rid the room of rodent stench. The fan is not going to pull directly from where the majority of the smell is unless you have it ducted right over their housing area.

Ok thanks! I am going to put the rodents under the fan. I will give this fan a shot... it was only $15
