    Roaming

I had a question and I know I've seen the answer on here before but now I can't find it, so I'll need to ask again. First some info: my bp is 11 months old, has a 40gal terrarium with 2 hides, one on each end. The temps are 82.4 cool end 92.6 hot end. Humidity is 61%. He feeds regularly and has never refused to eat. My question is he seems more active lately. He'll hide durning the day under one of his hide, but around 630-700 every night he'll come out and roam around his habitat for an hour or so, then hide for a few more hours. He repeats this process daily. Sometimes he even roams during the day. Is this normal or is he looking for a "safer" place to hide? Thanks for the help.

How much and how often are you feeding him? It could be perfectly fine or it could be because he is hunting for food. Also, I'd drop the temps on both sides a few degrees.

For my snakes that size, I normally feed every five days a weaned rat (a little smaller than the width of the snake). Once they hit 1,000 grams, I go to once per week. Good luck.

Are those temps surface or air? How do you check them?

    Re: Roaming

They are air temps, I have a duel probe thermometer that has the probs 1" above the substrate. there is also an under tank heater on a thermocontrol set to turn off at 92 degrees on the warm end.

So you have lamps and a uth?

Having a air temp of 92 near a lamp will probably have a hot spot under the lamp that is way over the ideal temps for your snake. Checking with a IR temp gun would be best but placing a probe under the lamp will give you an idea if it is to hot.
