    cat and snake

I know alot of people do this but are there any risks with having a cat with a snake. Other than a cat opening a tub up. But as far as agresivenes and the smel of the cat, will there be any difference in the behavior of my snake?

    Re: cat and snake

With BPs, I worry more about the safety of my snakes than my cat. Amos is definitely a hunter, and tends to kill anything he "plays" with. Even if he didn't, one good paw swipe could put out an eye, cause wounds that abcess, the list goes on. And if it's a big BP and a smaller cat, the tables could quickly turn the other way, where a vet visit becomes your best case scenario. And all because he was curious about the movey-thing...

As far as your question regarding the snake's behavior, it will be individually specific. I have some that wouldn't notice if my dog sat on them, and others that are tracking the cat the moment he enters the room.

yea i mean i wouldnt let my snake crawl around on the ground while the cat is in the same room. i was just mainly concerned about the scent of the cat. i didn't know if that smells like food to a snake.

Well, nothing happens when snakes can smell rats in the vicinty, so I don't think it would make a difference.

My cat watches my snakes when they're in their enclosure. The worst thing that happens is my cat jumps up on her shelf where she watches and scares the daylights out of my timid BP if he's out of his hide, haha. But other than that, I've had no problems. My snake has been on me while my cat is out and my cat will sniff and walk away. She knows the smell by now. And my snakes know her smell. There are no issues between the two.

Now my cat and my leopard gecko? Different story! My cat definitely wants to play with my leopard gecko when he's out, hahaha

My snakes could care less if a cat was roaming, they rarely ever even respond to him in any fashion.
