    Re: I want to quit!

I switched to vaping e-cigs. Not the ones that they sell at convenience stores, but the rechargeable, reloadable ones. They sell several different models with a wide variety of flavors in different nicotine strengths that range from 0mg - 24 mg. I currently use an eGo, and I alternate between cinnamon and Irish mint flavors...

Gum is good, smokeless tobacco horrible idea. I smoked for 6 years and thought I'd buy a can to "help" me quit. Here I am 6 years later typing this with a dip in. It's worse than smoking.

My last cigarette was February 18th 2002. That was the day I came down with a really nasty case of the flu. Very high fever, nausea, muscle aches, I was flat on my back in bed for a week. The whole time in abject misery and craving a smoke. I came out of that experience associating smoking with feeling miserable. I had smoked for over 30 years and I haven't had a cigarette since. Don't underestimate the power of negative reinforcement.

I quit cold turkey, after being a pack a day smoker (or closer to 2 packs if I was at a party). If I was just sitting around I smoked every hour, like clockwork (which was really bad when I lost my job and all I did really was sit around the house and/or party). I really believe it's a mind over matter sort of thing, if you tell yourself you have the willpower to do it then you won't do it. I just made myself say no if someone offered me a cig, and eventually it was easy to say no. Although during that time I did chew an awful lot of gum, so I guess that was my "quitting crutch" lol. You can condition your body that way. Every time you want a cigarette, chew a piece of gum! You have to find what works for you. I don't really like the whole nicotine patch/gum idea because I feel like you're just replacing one nicotine fix with another.

It does suck if I go out to the bar or I'm hanging out with people and everyone goes for a smoke. I mostly smoked for the social aspect, so I felt really lonely when EVERYONE went and I was left sitting inside because I didn't smoke. But I feel SO much healthier than when I was a smoker, so I never regret quitting.

Well, motivate yourself on top of it. You like herps, so put the money back that you would spend on cigs in an envelope and then get you something you really want.

The oral fixation is the key, though. Gum, suckers, jolly ranchers, anything.

My boss quit and just chewed lots of gum and ate candy like jolly ranchers, root beer barrels, and mentos. I liked it bc she shared the candy and mints with me haha!
