Another thing I found useful when quitting was to cut out things I associated with smoking or that might weaken my resolve. For me that was drinking. Every time prior I had tried to quit I would always end up having a smoke after a few brews.
Replace that oral fixation with something else. A lot of people like to chew gum but I prefer sunflower seeds so I always kept a pack on me for when I got the urge to smoke. I have a friend who had great success with dry roasted peanuts in the shell. He made a mess wherever he went but it gave him something to do with his hands which was helpful to him.
It's very helpful not to hang around smokers for the first couple weeks of quitting too.
