    Snakes and Cats

I know a lot of you guys have cats along with your snakes.

My cat, Chooey, is a little bit freaked out by Monty. You guys know of any good techniques to make them more comfortable with each other?

    Re: Snakes and Cats

Freaked out = Good. Comfortable = Bad. Comfortable cats are curious, and curiosity tends to lead to hunting behavior, which can hurt everyone involved. I wish my cat was more freaked out by snakes.

They should remain separated. I agree 100% with Annarose. Comfortable means you let your guard down, and then you'd end up with an accident.

They don't need to be comfortable with each other. They shouldn't be interacting at all.

    Re: Snakes and Cats

    Fair nuff.

I just don't want my cat thinking he can't ever go into the bedroom any more 'cause there's a snake in there.

I never take Monty out when Chooey is around either. I don't want them getting THAT comfortable. I just don't want Chooey to think he's gonna' get eaten. He's one of those cats that loves to kill stuff, but then he comes home and curls up like a little baby. Thinks he's tough, but he's really a wuss.

I keep my cats away from my snakes when they are out. I don't want any accidents either way with my snake or cat getting hurt.

yeah a curios cat can be a dead cat. I had a boa the cats at my mom's didn't mind it until they tried to use the cage as a litter box one day right after I changed the bedding and stepped out of the room to grab something from living room ( think it was cell ringing). I came back and found teh cat screaming bloody murder cause the boa figure if your in my cage your food. needless to say I rescued the cat told my mother it the stupid furballs own fault for trying ot make a mess in my snakes room.

I remember my black rat snakes nipping (biting my dog ) on the nose once and he never went near the snake room or me when I came out holding anything. which was good cause he was a dangerous 3 leg turd with a tail that could and did break things . sucks we hat to put him to sleep years ago cause of cancer.

I keep my cat away from the snakes. Although she's old and has really no interest in them. She even leaves the mice alone
