radiant heat panels
I constantly ask people if a RHP will raise ambient temps. Some say yes others say no. I would like to get to the bottom of this because I have a cage I just purchased from animal plastics and I don't want to drill holes for a RHP and come to find out it's not going to work the way I want it to. Hope I don't come off as rude, it's just frustrating. My ambient temp issue is the only thing that's holding me back from getting a bp. :/

RHP don't directly increase the temperature of the air in the cage, but they do heat everything directly below them much like a heat lamp. I have found that they are more than sufficient at heating a cage unless that air temperature is very cold (below 65)

it will raise ambient temps, most of the heat will be created on the surface of everything under it, that in turn heats the air and more in the area you want it, compared to say a light bulb. The RHP will also have some heat, nothing like a light bulb by any means, but im sure it helps with the ambient air also. All my big cages are heated with just RHP and temps are spot on where I want them.

Re: radiant heat panels
I custom built some 4X2X1 enclosures and use a RBI 40watt Heat Panel. I did a little experimentation and well it held my ambient temps at 80 in a 67f room no problem

Ive had success as well. My room can get to the low 70s. I have an RHP and flexwatt, and have no problems keeping my ambient.
