Oh boy this is fun... lol DUW

Ok, here's the story with this guy...

Bought a friends collection... 24 boas, 10 cages, 3 massive rack systems, LG colony, tons of supplies, and 1 BP. This guy.

He was basically sold to me as an Enchi, however I know he was farmed, because this guy was the manager of a petstore which receives snakes from the farm I used to manage. Now that I am no longer there to hand pick, the oddballs go straight to the store. It happens.. He said it stuck out like an orange on a pile of kiwis. Ok I just made up that last part.

He did NOT attempt to sell me a 'proven/guaranteed CBB' Enchi. So no issue there.. and at the end of the day, I probably paid pennies for this thing.

Anywho.. he said Enchi, another good BP friend said low grade Enchi, the Hunter's Guide screams Calico (matches just about all markers), and someone that works for Snakes at Sunset said Spark.

    Lots of pics...

Here he is on scale, just ate

    Decent body shot

    Belly shot

    Another belly shot

    Another body shot

Here he is besides what I call a funky granite

Here he is besides what I call a sweet black back

Funny story on the black back… I saw 2 on a table of normal at the FIRE expo and they stook out like sore thumbs. Both males. Then I asked about them.. guy said the woman that produced them, get this, bred a spider to a normal female and got white snakes, which died, and these two, the only normal appearing in the litter. Both blackbacks. I had to have them either way, I think they’re cool.

Here he is besides what I consider an average pastel… he is bright orange!

So regardless, he is staying here for now until I get to see more of him, what he looks like as he matures..

Would love to hear what others think! Even if they say it's just a pretty normal!

I don't see calico, and if he is an enchi, not a good one, IMO. Colors maybe enchi, but the pattern, not so great. I may not be the best to ask, but I do plenty of looking. Here is what a great enchi looks like, IMO.

I agree. Nothing about this snake says calico or enchi to me.

Yeah it stinks that I can't capture his true color in pics, especially with my cell phone, lol, but in person, the color is very similar to the enchi posted above, just obviously doesn't have the banded pattern. It is not just solid orange, it has the shady shift of color, like an enchi, which is why most that have seen it in person say enchi. Where the top half is brownish orange, the bottom half is a lighter peachish pink.

I can post pics of two of my baby calicos from different lines and most wouldn't think either was a calico. One - because many calicos aren't born showing the white. As hatchlings, they have a lighter colored speckling or dirty look in the area that eventually turns to white after several sheds. Two - the camera doesn't pick up that subtle lighter speckling well either.

He actually resembles very much one of my baby calicos. But the reason I say he matches the calicos markers from the hunters guide is because he has the belly, the head spot, the lighter speckling, and one or two other traits I forgot.

    Nothing like a YB.

Like I said, he is much more impressive in person, here he just looks like a high orange normal, but that's ok

    Thanks for the comments!

Just the fact that the initial thought was an enchi would totally rule out the idea of a calico. Even a poor example of an enchi doesnt look like a calico. While this snake does have the typical black back of a calico the side pattern is too orange to be calico. Calicos side patterns are milk chocolate in color and has varying degrees of highlighting. This is pretty much universal in calicos and I think many people base their opinions on the amount of white too heavily... I still say its a normal. A cool looking one though.

There are several lines of calico... not all look alike. My two babies are like night and day.. one is very orange, reduced pattern, elongated side blotches, the other darker brown, normal blotches, literally like an ugly normal... This snake resembles one of my calicos.
Calicos have one of the most varying degrees of color and pattern I have seen on a single morph. and yes not all show tons of white. Thanks again
