Sore on Nose
Hi,
I put my female in a new tub and thought she'd be good in it, but I was wrong. Right by the lid, there was almost like a lip that came down inside and left about a half inch between that and the lid. I guess through the night, she was testing the new tub and rubbed her nose raw. I put betadine on it over the next few days and it looked like it was healing, almost like it scabbed over, so I started leaving it alone. Well she shed a couple days ago and I was assuming the scab would come off with her shed, but it didn't. It's still scabbed over, but it looks like it's starting to come off and under the shed it looks raw again. I was just going to leave it as is for now, thinking that maybe it's just not ready to come off. I'm hoping it'll come off on her next shed or maybe she'll rub it off on her own. But I'm really not sure if I should leave it. Should I try soaking it in water? Or maybe try putting more betadine on it? I already feel so awful that I didn't notice the lip coming down the inside of her lid and allowing this to happen so I just want to help her as best I can.
These aren't the best pictures.. she wouldn't hold still.

In most cases, soaking is stressful. They key to treating any ailment is to do so in such a manner that stress is minimized.
The first thing I would recommend is correcting the situation that led to the rubbing - namely the offending tub. Toss it and get one that she can't rub herself raw on.
The second thing I would do is get your hands on a tube of silver sulfadiazine. You can get a prescription for it from a local vet. It is hands down the best ointment for these types of injuries. Contrary to what you will be told, neopsporin or any petroleum-based ointment is down right poopy for snakes. Yes, I said it - poopy.
Once you get the prescription, you can buy a 400 gram tub-ette of it from many online farm and ranch supply stores. Silver sulfadiazine is a must have for your herp medical bag.

Okay, thanks. I'll definitely look into getting that. It'll still be useful to use on her even though her nose is scabbed over? It's been this way for about 2-3 weeks now.
And yes, as soon as I saw her nose, I went out and got a new tub! I won't be buying those kind anymore.

I guarantee it will help more than not applying it!
If it doesn't help, I will send you an advanced copy of my new autobiography - Naked Came I.
