Head sensitive/taming help or tips??

Hi, I am brand new to this site and to forums in general! I just recently got a royal from a guy who really didn't want him so he spent a lot of time alone in a room and wasn't handled much...he doesn't tag me but when I get him out of his cage he's really tense but tends to loosen up after a minute but the main thing I am concerned about is how crazy head sensitive he is! If I move quickly in any way or move anywhere close to his face he jerks back super fast! I have no idea how to get a head sensitive snake calmed down because the only other snake I've had is my RTB and she was pretty much a puppy dog when I got her....so should I just continue to handle him and he will eventually come to trust me or is there some kind of technique or something I can do to help him not be so jumpy? Sorry If this is a newbie question I searched the other threads but couldn't find anything.

Just keep handling him for short periods of time 2-3 times a week. Some will always be real head shy but it should improve a little.

Head shy is a BP thing. Don't take it personal and don't worry about him tagging you. It is a fear reaction and I have yet to see one get "aggressive" after jerking away. Even the tamest of BPs will jerk away when they get a surprise touch to the head.

They all seem to start out fairly head shy. I have some that are still pretty head shy, but they get used to it the more you touch their heads.

I really don't try to make mine less head shy, it just isn't that important to me. I let each snake be whatever their personality is.

what you are about to read is strictly my opinion and something i could have been wrongly informed on but for whatever reason it works for me so im sharing it with you, it may not work for you keep in mind every snakes different.

a well knowlaged breeder and personal friend once told me if you have a bp that your holding and it wont stop being head shy and relax to GENTLY barly even touching its head put its head in your fist like wrap your hand around its head you dont even have to be touching its head put your hand around it for a few seconds and they relax, not sure why this works but it does one of my females is very head shy and this works every time, she chills right out. like i said u dont grab its head u dont even need to touch its head for it to work, personally i think it works because it makes them realize your not going to hurt them. so thats a trick i use for head shy bp's none of this is scientific and my theorys could be totally wrong but it works for me and may be worth a shot for you.

EDIT: by chills out i mean stops being tense and stops burring her head and loosens up and uncoils and relaxes

Thanks for the advice everyone! Brand new to the world of BP's (and something tells me I'm here to stay)....very helpful information and I can already tell I'm gonna love this site!
