Super Dwarf percentage translation

Ok, so I have a good working knowledge of the dwarf burms and how the % translates into sizes relatively, i.e. pure vs 50% vs 25% vs f2 of each. . . however, my question now is in terms of reticulated pythons and partial % results.

I am talking with a breeder about purchasing a tiger or super tiger 25% Super Dwarf retic with 12.5% additional dwarf influence. The breeder is well known and I trust his numbers 10000%. The female was a 50% Super 25%dwarf 25%inland reticulated python bred to an inland male. The female bred was 9' and the male was quoted to me as being 5' (not sure how that is with an inland?). My question is this. How much drastic change would the 50% influx of inland have on this line that produces 25% SD Retics in males and females. I'm shooting for an 8 foot male, and I think this is the mix that will do it in my mind. But I need someone with more SD and Dwarf retic experience.

After talking it over with Brandon over at Priceless Pythons up in Dallas, we were able to fully discuss the % work up to the best of his knowlege and my own genetic understanding with the evolution process by which size is ultimately determined on an island ecosystem. Having said that, looks like I'll be documenting growth rates on this cross for the next 4 years till it gets matured, he will be here on less than 2 weeks :-)

With 25% sd stuff.... it can be a hit or miss, you can end up with something full sized or something 10ft as an adult...... That being said my 50% sd females (I only have a couple) the big girl is a 09 and 8ft long and there is only one from her clutch that is larger than her at 9.5ft most are in the 7 foot range.... All of the 75% sd stuff I have seen stays pretty small 6.5ft or smaller..... It seems i am a bit late to chime in on the subject.... good luck, I dont know Brandon from Priceless pythons, but know Shawn Barnett they have some good animals

You have to be careful as even some pure "dwarf" retic localities (jamps for instance) have been known to hit 16-18 foot as adult females. It really will depend on the snake, the biggest question I'd ask- how many grams did it hatch at? An 8 foot male with those percentages, is easily possible, but if fed heavily, that same snake could easily hit 10+ foot.

There is no set rule for percentages in retics sadly..

Brandon mentioned that the clutch hatched at half the size of normal Retics Which lead him to believe that they should be good to stay below 10 ft but there is no possible way to guarantee it.

I am ok with however big it decides to get on me. I'm adding a super dwarf (75%) tiger female into the mix which will theoretically generate 50% SD offspring, 6.25% dwarf and 43.75% poss mainland blood. This is all still pretty new to me though in the python would. I never thought id want smaller Retics since the joy of having a retic is their amazing size to begin with.

*Update* I have worked with the breeder and he decided to let go of one of his hold back males from 09 (early). It's 50% SD, 25%D, 25% Mainland. And is no longer than a carpet python :-) Next step is to get the female on her were (75% SD Tiger). Hoping for good temperments and not some of the nasty stuff I've ready about them. Pictures in a little over a week when I get him in home.

Nice! Last minute though Brandon offered me an adult at a good price from a clutch a few years back that was a 50% to 50% SD breeding. So I jumped on it and will be getting a 50% SD male that is around 6' now.

50% SD male came in early this week and is starting the acclimating process. With the little hands on I've had with him getting him set up for his QT this guy is just spectacular. Not the smallest of SD but def a dwarf. He's an 08 and pushing 7 ft
