How long will it take a 900g female to reach breeding weight?

Met a guy the other day who had a normal girl for sale and we went to check her out as a possible breeder. We weighed her and she was 901g. The guy said she eats medium rats every 2-3 weeks, and refuses if he tries to feed her more often. Would she be more apt to eat every week if we fed her small rats instead of mediums? How long would it take her to reach breeding weight (1300g at the least, but preferably more) ?

It all really depends on the animal. I have a pair of clutch mates, one is 600g an the other is pushing 1100g

Depends if she eats for you or not. But assuming she does only eat every other week then it could take aroumd a year. If you can get her on a weekly schedual of good sized meals then maybe 3-5 months.

Depending upon the meal size, you're probably looking at about 3 months minimum (and that is pushing it). Hope this helps.

Like PIT said, it all depends.

Just because something doesn't work for one person, doesn't mean it won't work for you. I had picked up a 2 year old female that was 1000g that came with a similar story. I got her settled and fed her a small rat after a week and she fed no problem. Week after week she took small rats and after 5 feedings I put her on Mediums and the rest is history.

Sometimes it is not the snake, it is the husbandry or feeding process. This is not always the case, but with any new snake it is best to figure out what feeding process works best for them.

It will take as long as it will take it is variable, she can very well hit a plateau and not eat or put on weight for the next 6 to 9 months, those are not things you can predict, additionally why the rush enjoy seeing her grow and don't worry about how fast she will put on how much weight.

Size is one thing age is another bringing an animal to an healthy weight takes time, it's not a competition about how fast you can get an animal up to weight for the upcoming season.

We weren't going to rush her into feeding, I was just wondering. We didn't buy her, but they guy lives close to us so we were just wondering in case it would take a shorter time than I thought, then we might have gone back to get her. If you are looking for a female to go this year the one you mentioned in your OP would not be a good choice. If you did pick her up this year there is a good chance she will be ready for you to breed next season. I'd lean towards a proven female that is 1500g+ if you can find one.

This would probably be your best bet. Female normal breeders sell pretty cheaply on kingsnake and faunaclassifieds.
