That is one way and in a cooler room works well. There are a couple of precautions however. I would suggest that a the probe and the cable be secured. I do mean secured it must not pull free. The second caution is a failsafe (unless it is a herpstat 1 +) that will shut off the heat if the probe does come free. Pulled probes no matter the placement cause burns and or death. They must be firmly fixed in place. Interior mounting means the snake can effect the probe so it must be secure enough to resist this!!!
Don't use hot melt when your snake is in the enclosure!!!

I think he's talking about the Thermometer probe, not a thermostat probe. But I could be wrong about that
