Pastel Het Pied?

Just out of curiosity, I was under the impression that the possibility of het pied markers only applied to "normal het pied" specimens. I thought they didn't apply to other morphs?

unless the morph changes the pattern significantly where you might not be able tell, why wouldn't it apply?

It may be a good subject line for a sticky thread if someone with credentials wants to take the iniative to write it. "The truths and myths of Het Pied Markers".

just talk to multi people involved in the project, sort out your info, get some pictures. you sir, could very well do this, no credentials needed, just initiative.

With all due respect, just initiative won't get it. I have been on this forum long enough to recognize the hierarchy of the BP community. In otherwords, even though there are those who are undeniable the experts in this field, there is also an unmistakable level of cronyism. I often see where, if it isn't coming down from the Big Boy Breeders or the Mod Squad, then it is may be dismissed or ignored as opinion.

Further, I lack the name/reputation/credentials to gain access to those who would likely have the neccessary archives of data to begin compiling something worthy of authorship. In my own experience, I have witnessed people who don't have the time to be bothered with "the little guy, newbie, or other moniker". I will make my contributions on various threads in hopes that it is of some help, but I am always on the ready to have someone swoop in with their condessending wisdom to put me in my place. This is not a sideways remark intended for you. I geniunely appreciate your response and open dialogue with me on this thread. We just happen to disagree.

BTW, I live in Georgia now but grew up and lived for 43 yrs in Macomb Co. "Go Redwings."

I got this little guy because I liked his contrast in color. Even if he proves to be just a pastel I will be happy. At $80 he was a good buy. My only complaint is he is the meanest bp I have ever delt with. Thank you all for your input. Thank you.

We will have to disagree, the big boys voices may reach farther, there are some who voices are louder. Hang around long enough you know that doesn't mean a thing as to how correct the information is. I don't think a whole lot follow as blindly as you may think. I also think you're under estimating some breeders, there are quite a few happy to share information. That I have personal experience with. Don't let a few get you down.

Glad to hear that. I left for a job. How cliche' eh? I miss alot of things about MI like living in a state with a hockey team that has a solid fan base, hand lining for walleye on the Det river, deer hunting in the UP, and Ermas frozen custard in Utica. However, I do not miss the snow and grey skies from October to May or the poor quality of the roads unless that has improved recently. Here's hoping there is a hockey season this year.

I see, ermas in only a couple miles away from me only 20x20 building I know that needs 200 parking spaces on a hot summer day. Roads still suck, that sure hasn't changed. Hockey will always be around here though. Well hope their treating ya good.

Some base morphs like pastels, fires, cinnamons, are prone to having railroad tracks (het pied markers) and/or ringers or partial ringers. It just goes with the territory on some morphs.

This in itself can make it hard to say if they have markers even IF one of the parents was known to be a het or possible het pied.

Therefore, when these markets are seen in these morphs, and the genetics are unknown, or were not supposed to be het according to the breeder, then they can not be called het pied markers at all. Just a random and quite common pattern occurrence.
