How many of you are just attached to your pet snakes?
I was just thinking this morning of how much I love my snakes. I mean I just could not imagine my life without them, at all. I love my male normal so much and my little baby normal too! I know snakes don't have feelings or thought processes but my big male normal is just so chill with me when I am handling him. He only seems to prefer me when it comes to handling. He gets very nervous when my boyfriend tries to interact with him. He is just so calm when he is with me. I am soooooooo attached to this snake. People think I am freak because I love my snakes. They don't understand at all. I love my snakes as much as I love my cat and dog.

Most of the people I talk to about my snakes don't really think i'm wierd(or at least they don't say it to my face) But, they think I'm dumb for spending all this money on snakes. Like they'll spend a lot on some retarded poodle(no offense to anybody who owns a poodle) But don't understand me spending money on my pets. that's why it's gonna be hard for me to sell all my hatchlings locally, everybody expects a little corn to cost 10 bucks. And they also have to spend at least 60 for the setup.

I love my snakes to pieces! My first two snakes died within a month of the having them. My first corn snake, Chicken, died while AT THE VET'S OFFICE. They would not tell me why she died. I believe they dropped her, but I can't really say for sure. Needless to say, I have never been back to the vet. I also had a snake who would not eat. I tried every trick in the book, even forcefeeding. I had an appointment to have him put to sleep but he died the night before the appointment. Then I got my snow corn. Despite "he" turning into a "she" about a week ago, I still love her to pieces. She's the reason I didn't just close up shop and refuse to own snakes. I learned a lot about her, growing up my confidence about keeping snakes. I kept telling myself it wasn't my fault. Then I got my bloodred in May, my normal BP in July, and then 2 more corns and a spider a week ago. I'm glad I loved my snow as much as I did. I wouldn't be here with a collection of 6 and 2 coming this September. My mother thinks I'm crazy, but she's just beginning to see the passion and love I have for my animals...even my reproducing mollies in the bathroom and my cat who can't live with me for two years because of an allergy.

I will admit that I bought my bp Xander on impulse--I didn't even ask my parents! I just brought him home.
But I am so thankful to have him in my life. I understand and am well aware that he cannot feel emotions such as love. However, I still care for him. I got him during a part of my life that I was lost and depressed.
Whenever I was having really bad anxiety or was very upset, I would take him out and he would calm me down. I realized that I had a passion for reptiles--for which I hadn't been passionate about anything before.
So yes, I care very much for my snake. My parents may never understand why he means so much to me nor will my friends. However, I got him during a really rough time and he helped me through it. I may sound crazy. I'm not sure.

You totally do not sound crazy! You sound just like me! I love my snakes soooooo much. They are just the most awesome creatures I have ever had the privilege of keeping. I will never be without a snake in my life because there is no way I can even imagine that right now.

Definitely no love for my snakes. I do enjoy them immensely and value all life from ants to humans but I can not say that I love them. I'm not even sure that I've loved any dog that I've owned, though I have been closer to emotion with dogs than I have snakes. I believe that the reason for this is because I don't interact with my snakes the way that I do with my dogs. I never talk to my snakes like I do my dogs, and this is also likely the reason that I never named them until my kids got older.
Don't take this to be me not caring about my snakes. I take excellent care of them and I would very upset if I ever lost one that hadn't lived a long and healthy life. Again, I just don't feel that I can get emotionally attached to something that doesn't interact with me aside from slithering around in my hands/chillin' on my neck.

Daw! Well, I probably don't love them as much as my dogs, but I get a constant kick out of having them around. I have 2 bit tanks, and I rotate the adults through those, so that I can watch them come out and climb and generally snake about at night. I let them climb the bookshelves, and it just tickles me silly that there's a python on my bookshelf.
And I have constant nightmares about my getting caught under rocking chairs or lost under the refrigerator, the way I have nightmares about getting my dogs out of the house during a fire.

No problem at all dude! We all care for our snakes differently. I just wanted to know how other folks feel about their snakes. I totally respect and understand your take on this subject.

x2 Also, I don't get that connected to them because they don't want to be here. Like, I am forcing them to be my pets. So it's not like a domestic dog that needs humans to survive. But I do love to set their habitat up and give them the exact requirements they need. I take great pride in that. That and my limited knowledge about snakes.(which is still more than the average person).

I love my snake to death. I see balls as the misunderstood kid in high school which was me nearly 10 years ago. I think that's why I fell in love with them so much. They are like the animal reflection of myself. Not to mention that they come in HUGE collection of morphs that are absolutely stunning. Just love these little buggers to death. I will probably own pythons and other snakes till the day I die.
