I'd bring your thermometer in the car with you. On an 80 degree day with my windows and sunroof open, the few inches just above my car seat can reach 90. Better yet, put the probe for the thermometer IN the box or cooler and adjust the A/C as needed.
The A/C might be solid, just don't have the snake in anything that it gets a 'draft' ... put it in a bag or pillow case in a cooler or box and keep the cooler or box out of the direct breeze of the A/C.
