    problem with male breeder.

I have a male pastel that is 2400 grams that i wanted to pair with one of my females. Before we acquired him he was a pet. So as far as im aware he has never been bred before. Well when i put him in with the female he kind of freaked out. He was throwing his body like he was trying to get out. I took him out and put him back in his tub and he was calm as can be. Does this mean he isn't going to breed? Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

    Re: problem with male breeder.

I am inclined to think the "female" is a male, only times I have heard of them acting like that is when two males were in the same tub for breeding purposes. They don't like to sword fight I hear. LOL

I have had a few males do this when introduced with a female, I just let him calm down and try again in a few days.
But I do agree to make sure to check the females sex, even a probed female can be a male, probes can be used wrong...

The person you got her from *had her probed? So the person you got the female from doesn't know how to sex snakes and had someone else do it? Unless that someone else is an actual breeder who has sexed many snakes and knows how to pop and probe correctly, I would not trust that it's actually a female..

You have no idea how many pet stores and new keepers think they know how to correctly sex a snake, including probing (both sides) without injuring the animal, but end up mis-sexing them.

Did this so-called female do any tail wagging when the male was put in there? If not, and considering the behaviour of the male, I'm inclined to think the other one is also male. I'd get them both re-sexed by someone who actually does this regularly.

How big is the other one in grams?
