I hate to say this but I feel like you make it sounds as if she went out and did this on a whim. If that is the case I fear for this little guy, as she will likely lose interest after a short while and stop taking care of it. I hope that if she does she will let it go but who knows.
As for your question, I've never heard of that type of snake before, and I would have to assume that they haven't been kept in captivity much, as aside from corns, milks, kings, rats, rosy boas and a few hots not many snakes native to North America are. I hope that she finds out what it's husbandry requirements are and takes awesome care of it, and good luck at the nature center/vet.
