    From Balls to Bloods

Thinking about getting into bloods have always liked their colors and patterns but don't like their tempers. Wanted to know Wat kinda tub sizes will I need for these guys from hatchling to adult if newspaper bedding is acceptable and r their humidity requirements different from balls? Any other info would be great thanks

I have a Sumatran short tail (Black Blood) and a Sumatran T Positive albino and I really enjoy them and can't wait until they grow up into big chunky adult girlies. Right now I have each in a 28qt tub since they're smaller, but when they're full grown adults they'll be in 4' vivs (possibly 6' depending if they get larger than average). I have them on newspaper/paper towels without issues but I know people use other bedding to hold humidity better. I keep them at around the same humidity levels as my balls/other snakes and each have no problems shedding: though they can withstand higher levels of humidity.

As far as temper goes, my albino is a sweetheart. My short tail has gone through a striking/defensive "aggressive" stage but I've been working with her more and she's been doing wonderful. Have yet to have her strike at me again and she's been relaxing when being held. It depends on the snake: my advice if you're worried about temperaments is ask the breeder/seller how the snake is with them and perhaps start with a younger one.

They are burrowers so crumpling extra sheets of newspaper will work fine. I have a female just over 4ft and around 12lbs. I ordered some large cages but her temp home is a 42x18x7 tub. I have to say it's a bit small. I have the warm side with a thick layer of mulch she burrows into and just crumpled newspaper on the cool side. IMO adults should be in a cage not a tub. I have read all different suggestions on what the humidity should be and keep mine between 55 and 65 and have not had any issues as of yet.

She is by far the sweetest snake I own. She is hissy when you first touch her but she never does any more than that. As soon as she is out she is a complete sweetheart. She will hang out with me as long as I let her. The only problem is she can get heavy around the neck after a while.

I have absolutely fallen in love with bloods by getting her and will have many more soon. I Love their heavy build and colorings.

They do take up a good amount of space as adults and when they go to the bathroom you will swear a baby elephant stopped by, no kidding.

If you check out bloodpythons.com they have some really good info there under their resources tab. Husbandry, temperament, just about anything you need info on you could find it.

If I can give any advice, but directly from a Blood/Short Tailed Python breeeder.

Sometimes you'll run into a "flipper" at shows with them

    Temps 80-82

Humidity for me, I like about 70%

Paper is fine, aspen is fine, cypress, pretty much anything you'd use for my Balls.

I currently keep my lone brongersmai in a tub, but she will be upgraded to a 4ft cage in the not too far off future. I'm planning on using a RHP, and continuing to use cypress bedding for humidity. I like cypress for more humid species such as bloods and BRBs.
