Ok, I think I may have an Orange Thing Pastel... thoughts?

This was my second year breeding for my Orange Thing project, and I did have a reason for breeding the parents in the first place Mom is a normal, dad is a pastel. The first year I got an Orange Thing, this year I'm pretty sure I made an orange thing het and maybe an orange thing pastel! Time will tell I think.

Any who, I thought she looked really orange from the start then I started to second guess myself. I went to take new pictures of her since I had her up for sale, but she didn't look that good in her pictures, she looked dark/dirty. So I took new pictures of her tonight couldn't do any better and thought, holy crap!

So I went and put her with a pastel, had my flash turned way too low, but look at all that orange!

Turned up the flash, technically the bigger pastel female could be a 50% het orange thing if it is genetic

Added the Orange Thing on the left, the orange pastel has shed 4 times now

Added what I'm calling a het orange thing, the female normal on the right -she looks just like mom (belly pic at bottom)

Added a normal on the far right

Orange thing pastel(?) and het orange thing(?)

Het orange thing female with normal

Orange Thing wrapped around the normal

I have noticed is that they have tracks, this is the one I'm calling a het orange thing. Their blacks are jet black, their heads are really dark if not black, and their sides get really light/bright near the belly.

Looks like you might have something there to be sure though, your gonna have to keep breeding to really know if its genetic, recessive, co-dom or whatever. They look sweet though. Let me know if you still are looking to sell

I hope so!!! I'm breeding the orange thing back to his mom this winter to see what I get! At this point I think it is a recessive gene which kind of sucks, but if it's genetic I will still be super excited! And I'm so glad no one wanted to buy her! Jeez that was dumb of me for not being more patient. People probably thought she was an ugly pastel.

I agree, she's cool. The orange thing brightened with age so hopefully she does the same.

I'm hoping so! Thank you! I'm anxious to get eggs next summer/spring and see what happens. Hopefully it will prove/disprove the gene for sure.
