Does your BP recognize you and other questions...

I asked that question to my breeder and he said no. I was told that BPs only recognize humans in general but they wont be able to recognize you as their owner. Is this really true? I assumed that they will be able to recognize you from your scent and/or way of handling them.

    Can anyone confirm this?

And also, how can you really tell whether your BP is comfortable/happy/relaxed with you? What are some of the characteristics?

    Thanks in advance

I'm pretty sure they can recognize you by your scent. My female is nice and calm in my hands and rarely balls up (she balls up when anyone else holds her). I assume it's because she knows my scent and knows that I feed her every four days and I'm not going to eat her!

I think my snakes recognize me as a non-threat. They are a little more defensive around other people...

I don't believe much in the whole scent thing. I can handle mine with no perfume on, with such and such perfume on, or smelling like hand sanitizer/soap and they always act the same. I believe it's how you approach them: if you're nervous they'll pick up on and it act accordingly.

IMO a relaxed bp is one who isn't physically tensed up, nor one who is trying to get away and who looks visibly unnerved (acting jumpy, flighty, hissy, etc).
