How many mis sexed snakes sales?
Hey everyone ive seen a few posts here and there about this so im just wondering how many times has it happened to you? Most of my freinds who own ball pythons (3) all 3 have had snakes sold to them as the wrong gender to make more money or just to get rid of the animal.
These is my stories (2) 1st i recently bought a "female" pastel from Niagara Reptiles the seller was on kijiji she claimed to be the daughter of the man who owns this company, she litterally emailed me as niagara reptiles. I was offered a female pastel at 350gr for $200. I was looking for a female pastel missed out on others before so i was determined to get this one. I get the line oh we r moving soon so can u be here befor this day. I felt it might b fishy either way, so i drive out see the animal she is in deep shed n was a bit skinny, im not an expert on popping but can probe np, the sellers bf ended up showing me the snake in their driveway at 1130 at night, (again bad sign) i asked female? told yes id pop for u but shes deep in blue. so i let it slide bougth the snake on good faith n went home. After the 2 week quarentine i decied to weigh her up, i just finished weighing my other females i put "her" in to weigh she start toungue flickng n actin weird i lift her out to find 2 little hemi pens hanging out of his vent. awesome
2nd happend to me along time ago about a year n a half ago, found an add on kijiji selling 2 normals 1-250gr 2nd-650gr and a male pastel that was about 300 gr. all 3 snakes were woefullyght under wieght just like the other bad buy. seller wasnt allowed ball pythons due to city by law but his red tail boas were ok..? either way 3 snakes for 250 wasnt a bad deal to me so i bought them the largest female turned out to be a male found that out after feeding him for 5 months to get over 1600gr to breed n it was a dude. he beat up my little spider male when i tried to breed, this way the buy that made me learn how to sex my animals.

Re: How many mis sexed snakes sales?
i almost bought a male as a female from someone local they said they had it sexed an it was confirmed to be female the day i was going to buy the snake i popped it and the she turned to be a he, so i always double check by popping even if it's from a reputable breeder just to make sure.

Last year at Tinley I was sold a male fire that turned out to be female (I popped her several times and and a breeder confirm it). That was a huge win to me since I paid a male price. I didn't check at the show because for $150 I couldn't lose.

Re: How many mis sexed snakes sales?
I have five BPs and learned how to pop very quickly after my male became a female.
My oldest is seven. When I rescued a RTB a few years back I took both to the vet for a check up (first time to a reptile vet) and always wanted to know what I had. Just curious. Vet said Nacho, my BP, was a male. The RTB was a female then male then female then male then male then female. The RTB was a rescue so was always going into the vet. Vet was an actually reptile vet. I was a little shocked so never really knew what I had. My RTB passed away two summers back and to be honest, I never knew what sex she/he was, but for a rescue I loved him greatly. This summer I finally went to my 2nd reptile expo with Nacho as I had been talking to a BP breeder about getting Nacho sexed. At the show, Nacho was a male. Then I made the mistake of putting two snakes in the same cage while cleaning. Opps. They locked. I met up with another breeder, who showed me how to probe and pop. Nacho was a girl! She popped a girl and she is a huge one. 2200 grams plus! He even probed her to show me and double check. Girl all the way! The breeder said maybe Nacho didn't feel comfortable at the show as we met at a store. He bought one of my trade BPs who was a huge male. My spider was defiantly a boy who locked with Nacho! I had thought maybe my spider was sold male was a female.
Now I know how to sex them so I am never worried but will always check before I turn over any money unless I just really like the snake and price. I have three girls and two boys but I could care less what sex they are. Love them! My spider boy will breed any girl and to be honest, I could see him trying to breed a dog or cat if given the chance. He is a horn dog. Live and learn. Sometimes it sucks when money is involved but we are all humans and all of us have made mistakes.
