    Stuck Shed question

Ok, I feel foolish, but I had gotten so caught up in getting my new Carpet python hatchling to eat I completely missed that he was in shed, and didn't bump up the humidity. So he tried to shed today and pretty much only got his head clear and the rest is stuck. I feel horrible. Is it the same with this little guy to put him in a container with water and a wet wash clothe and leave him in there under his light for 45 minutes to an hour? Or is there a different way to do it with him being a hatchling. So far I have gotten him to eat twice and he has kept both meals down without any issues. Thanks again, I feel just awful about this.

I would put it in a tub with a nice damp towel and let it crawl through it for awhile. Remember to have the water within its needed temps. Start with the warmer temp and don't let it get cold as the water cools down. If it is possible to provide a heat lamp that would be good.

Put him in a warm damp pillow case for a hour. The friction of moving around in the case will rub the shed off. It's much less stressful than a bath.

Any of the typical methods will be fine just make sure not to have him in so much water that he might drown, if you put him in water directly. The already mentioned methods would also remove the risk of drowning.

Yeah, don't let it freak ya out too bad. Just live and learn from it. Don't do the tub thing unless its cage temp water that only goes up half the side of the snake, can be maintained at the proper temperatures, and provide a rag in the middle of it to allow it to go through.

Damp warm pillow case is usually win win, but I would put a DROP of mineral oil on the snake. Sometimes I just let a snake run through a warm rag with a drop of mineral oil in my hands and it works great as well. . . lots of methods. Good luck

I am trying a small container with a damp wash cloth and a very small amount of water in the bottom that was at 86 degrees. I put him in the container and put the lid on it, he is sitting on the wash cloth lol. I put the contianer in his tank under the light, but not on top of the UTH. I would love to of put some mineral oil on him, but he is the meanest snake I have every seen. Lol. I just open the top of his tank and he is coming off his branch right at me and striking. lol. I named him Wicked after a character from a book I am reading, and it fits him But I still love him. Thanks for all the replies So helpful.

No worries, don't be too fearful of a bite, they can be scary if you've never been tagged but from babies its no worse than a needle prick, sometimes they don't even break the skin in a defensive strike. I have one male who would never calm down, once you got him out of the tank he was OK, but getting him out was a strike fest. . . it was up until last week that this went on till finally after his most recent shed he lets me just grab him and he handles great.
