You need the following in no particular order
Not being underage (A contract with a minor is not enforceable therefore most people will not deal with a minor)
Hands on experience
Ability to give sound advice based on experience
Quality animals
Good ethics
Great customer service
Ability to market yourself
Good communication skills (in person, over the phone and in writing)
Time (Getting a good reputation will not happen overnight)
Etc
