    Probably a silly question but...

I have always understood that snakes can eat things far larger than their head would lead you to believe but after my first two successful feedings I began to wonder if feeding them mice/rats that are too big could hurt them. If you gave them something too large do they just know themselves they could not eat it or does animal instinct make them try anyways. Again it feels like a silly question but just for sheer curiosity....

Also anyone have water preferences? Store bought spring? Filtered? Tap treated for chlorine? Just plain tap?

They usually won't even try to eat something that's too big. If they do, they end up regurgitating it.

And I use tap water for mine.

They can eat items that are too big and will have to regurg them. Google images of snake regurg. You will notice alot of wild snakes, very large wild snakes having to regurg huge items.

I use store bought filtered water for my misting bottle and misting machine but use tap for their drinking water. I only use the store bought water to keep the misting from spotting the tanks.

I use distilled water for my humidifier and filtered drinking water like 88 cents at WalMart for a gallon. I think anything is fine. The chlorine in tap water will evaoprate out pretty quick. So unless your snake dives in as soon as you put the water in and starts guzzling I think its fine.

Typically they will not even eat anything that is too big. As far as water, I just use tap.

If nothing ever changed, there would be no butterflies.

Some snake species can eat prey larger than themselves. Other can't.

Chlorine dissipates fairly quickly. Spending money on chemicals to remove chlorine from tap water would be a waste.
