Ok so I had a rescue snake come in with mites, not bad but I took care of them and in the mean time put olive oil on it since I read that was ok till I could get the mite spray. This was fine snake is eating and drinking fine but after the olive oil coating they shiny part of his scales came off. The scales are there and I have been told its not scale rot. No discoloration or anything else just the shiny part came off. Will this clear up after next shed?

I would not have used that. I just had a bad case of mites. What I did was just wait tell my Pam came in. We don't know what it is tell we see some pictures. I'm guessing it kept the humidity on the skin and did not allow the skin to breath. I'm sure someone can chime in. Soak your snake in some water to get that off. IMO

Its been off. For about a week now it's been washed off, it looks exactly like a normal BP belly with out the shiny top part its hard to photograph because like I said there's no discoloration or anything its just not shiny.

imo no oils should be used on the snake ever.
It only drowns the mites, no different than allowing the snake to soak in water.

Wait for the pam and if you have room allow the snake to have a larger water bowl to soak in...

Right the mites were taken care of already with Pam I understand no oils should be used now but I have had snakes my whole life and no mites till the rescue. At that point I was advised to use olive oil until I could Pam it. As I stated the mites have been taken care of already. My question is not about the mites its about the fact the shiny came off the belly scales and if that will be cured by the next shed?

Yes the scales should be fine after the next shed.

I'd be more worried about the mites coming back - they are quite hard to eradicate as they travel and lay eggs elsewhere which then hatch and re-infest the snake.

Thank you! Went ahead and treated the area, the cages (all my snakes even though everyone is separated and I follow quarantine) . I have everyone - going through quarantine again just as a precaution and so I can keep a close eye on everything.
