marking
why do people mark the eggs?
-

Eggs must not be turned, or the baby will drown in the fluids. Therefore you mark the egg to always know which way is up and keep it that way!

Re: marking
Hi,
Tim Bailey (Muddoc ) did a very good thread experimenting with the turning egg scenario.

I still mark my eggs ( when I get any ) but it's mainly habit.

I have also had eggs that were inadvertently turned at various points during incubation. Haven't had any babies die from it, so I think the whole drowning theory is a myth. However, I don't recommend turning the eggs on purpose.

I don't mark my eggs. People do it so they know which side is up. I don't really stress about it. You can always candle the egg and get an idea of which way is up if it ever gets rolled. I had a clutch get rolled this year, I had trouble figuring out which way was up on one of them, but all the babies hatched out just fine.

I put my eggs on vermiculite so they don't roll. No need to mark.

I dont mark either. I think the drowning thing is a myth for ball pythons carried over from other species.
