Day 52, leaving town, remove the press-n-seal?

So I'm going out of town for 4 days, and one of my clutches will be at 52 days.

I have a friend coming over on Saturday (day 54) to check on the clutches and let in some air for that clutch and the one that's a week behind it. I'm still a little worried about the oldest clutch pipping and suffocating in there while I'm gone. Should I just throw out the press-n-seal (actually, I'm using ordinary cling wrap) before I go?

(At what point do people usually take off the press-n-seal?)

As it gets closer to hatch date they will give off more moisture so since your so close I would remove it an poss add a hole in the tub to get some air in there since youll be away.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, but if you are concerned, go ahead and take it off.

For the record, I leave it on the entire time.

Yeah, I tried that first, because we didn't use it last year when I just had a beer cooler for an incubator. But with the low Arizona humidity and the wine fridge and the fan blowing dry air around inside, the eggs were all caved-in and scary-looking when I checked on Day 2. So I busted out the cling wrap! It helped a lot.

What's the humidity like in San Antonio? And do you have a fan in your incubator? I think the fan vs. no fan makes a big difference.

"Entire time" = from laying until pipping? Or from laying until they leave the egg?

One of my clutches stayed all nice and plump and another got the dimple look.
The new bator has two small fans and so far is holding a perfect 89 degees all over and 99 percent humidity.

San Antonio weather is always all over the place, you know what they say about Texas weather: "If you dont like the weather just wait 30 min it will change"

Weather in Texas is a lot more stable than any where I have ever lived. The saying I usually hear is "If you don't like the weather just wait 10 minutes and it will change".

I would take it out just in case. I would be more comfortable knowing there is more airflow than more humidity at this point.
