New temps and such
So when I 1st set this tank up, I was getting like 80-85 warm side and about 72-80 cool side, I was also having my humidity drop down to 45% a lot so I was misting a lot for a while.
So, I got my hydrofarm thermostat, some tin foil and some duct tape (can't forget, a razor!). I took my thermometer out, cleaned up the glass where the heating pad is, attached it to the glass with the suction cup that came with the thermostat, then put the thermostat probe between the tank and the heating pad. Then took the tin foil and cut it to fold over itself about 3 times, tapes it to the tank covering about 3/4 of the screen lid (all on the outside of course). Now just look at the pix for updated temps/humidity!!! I haven't sprayed the tank for almost 2 days now and that humidity hasn't budged from 55-56%!

Could you post a pic of what your probe looks like sitting between the tank and the UTH? It always seemed the probe from the thermostat was too big to be between the glass and the UTH.
What are you using the tinfoil for?

Personally I am not a huge fan of restricting ventilation to increase humidity (http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...ons-The-Basics) however if you use your nose it will tell you if it is stale stagnet air. check every now and again smell the enclosure it should smell clean vaguely wood chip smell of the new cyprus nothing else if it smells old basement (closed up and musty) or anyway offensive I'd re think the foil.

Wouldn't a 3/4 covered screen top still be more ventilation than the avg tub though? Or do the holes on the side of the tub vs the top of a screen do more ventilation wise?

Not necessarly. Tanks only vent from the top this is ineffecient. Tubs with lower walls and holes lower in the side can have better air flow depending on the size and frequency of the holes. The best is high and low holes that takes warm air currents into mind this will generate very good air flow (high over one end and low over the other) and even with much smaller surface area there is smaller 'dead' air spaces.
Very simplified drawing....

Gotcha. I think I'll play around with the venting a bit. Right now mine is similar to the second, where as moving the foil closer to the center a bit would create a better flow. (for a tank anyways one day I will have my rack system ) Thanks!

Yeah I understand what you are saying here and this is just until I build my rack system I have planned out (someone else planned it actually)!! Won't be long before that gets set up!
