    Omg fml

Today, I was shown how to pop ball pythons. Day was great, that is, until I started driving home..

I didn't know the speed limit, and saw police up ahead. So I started to slow down, but one cop still pulled me over. I had to slam on my brakes, and ended up rear ending a car that was ahead of me.

Everyone's okay. There is no damage to MY car, and pretty sure there was little damage to theirs. I'm severely embarrassed and mortified..

I didn't get a fine, but I got a ticket to appear in court for reckless driving. I'm scared, as this is my first accident, and don't know what to do.

It was an 80 zone, and it was ESTIMATED I was going 120. The police didn't clock my speed with a radar gun, etc. It was their estimation I wad going that fast. I'll admit I was speeding, but I couldn't have been doing more than 100-110. My dad also thinks my speedometer is off.

I'm just needing to rant, ask for advice, etc. I'm scared to go to court too

Well, they can not ticket you for speeding in Ontario wit an estimation as far as I know..

Take it to court chances are the officer will not show.

Then again rear ending the car in front of you is your fault irregardless, unless you can prove that the officer made that car stop in an unsafe manor.

    Good luck

I know it's my fault, can't blame anyone else. I live in edmonton. I've just never gotten into "trouble" before and am terrified.

    Reckless Driving? Damn...

Here Reckless driving is a criminal offence while Careless Driving is a moving violation that incurs a fine and points off of your license.

If reckless Driving in Edmonton carries any severe penalty I would suggest that you hire someone to represent you in court. Otherwise you need to contact the justice of peace and order the disclosure from the ticketing officer and request the reading and maintenance records from the device that was used to capture your speed. The disclosure is the police officers records of what happened that day. Its always a good idea when you are going to court to write everything down as it happened while it is still fresh in your mind, this way when you go to court you don't have to guess and you have all your notes.

Good luck and hope everything turns out okay!

It happens that's why they are called accidents

They happen to the best of us

Just explain your situation to the judge and maybe he will lessen the charge

You didn't get a speeding ticket because he can't prove you were speeding. You got reckless driving because you rear ended someone, everyone who is found at fault of a MVA is charged with careless. You made a mistake and it's no big deal. Just make sure you go to court and plead guilty. Canadian courts are very forgiving. As for the charge, don't worry about it, you can often get it stricken as long as you agree to pay the fine. I would consult a lawyer and see what your best course of action is, but I studied traffic law in college and that's what I would do.

    Goodluck!

Accidents happen, you'll be OK Take a deep breath, show up to court, and drive more carefully next time. If you already have a claim set up, cooperate with your insurance company to take care of the other car. Sounds like it was pretty minor, but there's always the chance they get checked up at the doctor too. But really.. accidents happen. Always take into consideration that the driver in front of you might stop for any reason at any time (Be it a cat, pedestrian, or if they are a resident of Washington, and just feel like stopping), and it's your responsibility to maintain a safe following distance. But very importantly.. it's ok to feel embarrassed, but don't beat yourself up over it. Learn from it

I know it's my fault, and that's why I think I'm more embarrassed, etc.

Thank you all for the advice. I don't have to go to court for a month so I'm gonna go do some researching tomorrow.

I talk to embarrassed people all day long at work - as I handle auto claims all day long. You'd be surprised at how frequently people do exactly what you did. Just don't beat yourself up over it, and be happy that the only thing damaged is your ego

Don't beat yourself up! A few years back I was in an accident on a major highway. I was in the passing lane doing 70 and I hit the guy in front of me and the lady behind me had more damage to her car then I did to mine. I plead guilty and paid a hefty fine. I learned my lesson from this scary little experience.
