Baby Snake Escape!!
Hey guys. Yes, I just bought my baby albino striped California kingsnake on Monday. Yes he escaped on Wednesday. I found him after searching for two hours. And yes, he escaped some time last night or today and after six hours of searching, no luck. I don't think he can get out of my room as I'm downstairs in my own area. But its a big room. I tore the place apart entirely. I emptied my closet and my dresser, checked every single article of clothing twice, and then moved them upstairs. Believe me, I looked absolutely everywhere.
Trying to be more passive, I put his cage on the floor with easy access and turned my AC up to try to cool him out and back to his heat pad. I have hamsters, so I immediately moved them out of the room and put them somewhere safe. I have a small travel cage for them which I let them sit in for about ten minutes. I thawed a pinkie out and put it in the cage (it has bars with small spaces between them) in the hope he'll crawl in for a meal and be too fat to crawl back out for a couple hours. He hasn't eaten since last Sunday so I'm hoping he'll be getting hungry soon.
Is there anything else I can do? I've heard about setting flour along doorways to see where they go, but I'm almost 100% sure he's confined to just my bedroom. As of right now, I've left the room dark, cold, and alone for two hours. Please help me! I've already grown attached and miss him.

Theres really nothing you can do. My juvenile ball got out one weekend while i was gone. I ripped the place apart and cried after a day of no success. He could have been anywhere. I thought he was in a vent or something, under the house...In the walls. I also realized i have a rat hole in my bathroom sink cabinet. I was almost postive he crawled in the rat hole. Couldnt get him out though. Three days later, open my cabinet, "Omg there you are baby!" you wouldve thought that snake was my lover or something the way I said that. Very stressful. And I was very lucky. But all you can do is wait really..
I also have an albino california banded king, a juvi. About 8 months. Even though its sad to bring up the fact you may not find your baby. Shes always up for grabs if you want her.

Re: Baby Snake Escape!!
Your kingsnake sounds like mine when he was a baby which means he's an escape artist and possibly a pig.
Aside from tearing the room apart maybe this:
This might be a bold move, but I would try this if you are confident enough to do it: Put the hamsters in a cage/container/enclosure with much smaller holes in it and let them be "bait" for the snake. Hopefully he'll come after the scent of the hamsters.
If anyone thinks my idea isn't good, please speak up. I did say it could be a bold move.
Or, if you are cooling off the room perhaps set up one hot spot for him to go to and you may get him that way. Also, perhaps block under the doorway with a towel.
Also, if you have a dog, it may find it w/o harming the snake. That happened to me once. If it wasn't for the dog, I probably wouldn't have found my little guy.
Good luck.

Re: Baby Snake Escape!!
I let the hamsters sit in the cage for about ten minutes before I put the pinkie in, hoping the mixed smell of hamster/mouse would bring him running. So far, I've had no luck. I blocked under the door with a towel so if he hasn't gotten out yet, he can't now. I set up a hot spot with his tank and heating pad, with the cage holding the pinkie close by. I also put his two hiding places outside the cage but close to it to encourage him to stay close by after he finishes the mouse. I read that many baby snakes will die of dehydration before most things, so I laid out a few damp napkins in cooler places, hoping to stave him off before he can get to the pinkie. I check downstairs every 1 1/2 or so, trying to cause as little disturbance as possible. I'm really stressing out about this and just want my baby to come home safe and sound. I have two cats and a dog right upstairs--one of my cats is a very accomplished snake catcher. I actually let her wander around in my room for a while hoping she'd sniff him out, but she just fell asleep under my bed. =/

Re: Baby Snake Escape!!
Yeah, it's tough. Sometimes it is a wait and see. Patience is important. It sounds like you're doing all you can. Perhaps a small water bowl near one of the hides? Also, if there are any electronics like computers or whatnot in the room, check inside.
Good luck.

So sorry to hear of the escape. I don't have much to offer, I'm afraid, but I do hope you find your little guy. If you have hard wood floors (or even tile/linoleum), you could try putting down a few sprinkles of flour and see if you can't figure out at least where your baby is? My friend once took a 2 liter pop bottle (thoroughly cleaned out), cut the top 1/3 off, turned it around and stuck the top back inside the bottle and taped it with masking tape. He then placed two pinkies inside the bottle and left it lying on the floor against the wall. Within a couple of days he found his snake, because it had climbed into the pop bottle to eat and then couldn't figure out how to get itself back out. I dunno if this would help you out, but I really do hope you find your baby!
