First shed with us and weight gain
Kasi had her first shed. I noticed her color was getting dull and on Sunday her eyes were very cloudy. I checked on her every other day this week and made sure the humidity was between 70-75. When I went to check on her last night she was in the cool hide and I saw something out of the hot hide. We found a shed that looks like a rolled up very dirty sock. We checked Kasi over and she looks great. Is that normal for the shed to be like that? We had thought it would look like the baby corn snakes one full long piece. She has not pooped since she came to live with us, is it possible it's in the shed?
We weighed her and she gained a little over 40 grams in a month. She was being fed a rat every 2-4 weeks. After posting about her when we first got her we moved her to every 7 days. She has had 4 40 gram rats since she has been with us. Is that a decent weight gain?

all my bps shed have been looking like rolled up "socks" I'd say something else, but not sure if it is polite. So I won't. As long as it sheds, and eye caps are clean, then you're good. Humidity might be a bit high though.
What's her current weight though? as 2-4 weeks is drawn out too much. Over 450+ grams usually people are on the 7 day schedule. Feeding Fridays are an easy way to remember. Which is today! ;-D

Re: First shed with us and weight gain
The shed is fine and the snake could have left a poop in it. Sheds don't always come out as an unrolled roll of toilet paper, sometimes they come as a bunched up dirty sock as you have witnessed.
As for growth, I will differ to someone who has more experience in how fast a ratsnake grows.
Also roughly how long is your snake? How old is she? What is her current weight? What size rats are you giving her? <<< I assume these answers will help determine whether she is growing well.

It probably looks dirty because their pattern is on there. No, bp sheds don't look anything like a corns. Mine are always rolled up little packages too. I always unroll them and check for eyecaps too, then I know they were shed.

The sock like shedding is completely normal and most BPs will only defecate after shedding.

Thanks for the replies. Glad to know it does not sound like a unusual shed. Her normal humidity is in the mid to upper 50's. Should I have kept the humidity closer to upper 60's-70?
Her eyes are really bright and clear. They actually look different than from when she first came home with us.
I made a mistake with the weight. She was 460 when we weighed her 4 weeks ago. She was a year old on May 8th and I'm not sure on her length. I can attach pictures if needed. She is fed a f/t rat that is at least 40 grams according to the package every 7 days now for the past 4 weeks. Tomorrow is feeding day but we will be away Sat night-till Sun night so I'm going to wait to feed her till we return. So she gained 28 grams in 4 weeks with 4 meals.
Her former owners feeding schedule according to the cards was every 2-4 weeks depending on if she was in shed.

Re: First shed with us and weight gain
50% humidity while not in shed is completely fine, a lot of people like to bump the humidity up to 70% when shedding or you could just provide a humid hide.
